UK pre-CAS credibility interview practice

Find out what a caseworker would hear, before one actually does.

A spoken mock interview set by the university you are applying to, recorded on camera and scored on whether your answers contain anything a person could check.

Free to use. Independent practice tool, not affiliated with UKVI.

How it works

1

Choose your university

Pick the university you are applying to. There is no form to fill in and nothing to upload. The interview you sit is the one that institution has configured, with its own questions in its own order.

2

Sit the interview on camera

Your webcam and microphone record you answering each question aloud, one at a time. There is no record button and no retake: the interviewer speaks, you answer, and it moves on when you stop, exactly as a real one would.

3

Read the assessment

Every answer is marked against what that university was actually listening for, so you see which points you covered, which you missed, and how you came across. You can watch yourself back.

What you get asked

Every interview covers each of these at least once. Where a university has its own known interview pattern, the questions follow that pattern instead.

Why the UK
Over home and the other destinations you considered
Why this university
What made it beat the others on your list
Why this course
What it teaches that your plans need
Funding
Who pays, what it costs, what happens if that changes
Accommodation
Where you will live, and whether you can afford it
Immigration history
Refusals, dependants, asked plainly and answered plainly
After the course
What happens immediately, and where

How answers are scored

Every answer is marked on several things at once, against criteria the university wrote for that question. A hesitant answer full of real detail beats a smooth one with nothing in it.

CoverageDid you say the things that mattered
Each question has talking points the university wants covered. You are marked on meaning, never on wording. The same idea in your own words counts in full.
SpecificityReal reasons, not general ones
A named alternative, an actual figure, something that could only be true of you. Fluent and generic scores below halting and specific.
FluencyHow the answer was delivered
Measured from the audio: pace, pauses, fillers, repetition. Accent is never judged, and thinking before you speak is not a fault.
ConsistencyWhether your answers hold together
Statements that cannot both be true are flagged so you can notice them here rather than in the real interview.
NaturalnessSpoken, not recited
An indicator, never an accusation. Being well prepared is what we asked you to be; reading a script aloud is a different thing, and it shows.
Marked against what the university asked for

You see the points you missed, not just a number

Each question carries the things a good answer covers. Your report ticks off the ones you made and names the ones you did not, so you know exactly what to say next time.

Indicators, not verdicts

Recited answers show, and are said to be indicators

Brochure language about world-class faculty and a safe, multicultural country reads as scripted, and the report says so, with the evidence, and without calling anybody dishonest.

Questions people ask

Is this an official UKVI service?

No. prepUK is independent practice software. It is not affiliated with UKVI, the Home Office, or any university, and nothing here affects a real application.

Do I need an account to practise?

Yes. Your recordings and your reports are private to you, which means they sit behind a sign-in. This page is the only part that is public.

Do I have to use a camera?

It is recommended, because a real credibility interview is often on video and watching yourself back is where most of the value is. If your camera is unavailable, the interview still runs on audio alone.

What happens to my recordings?

They are stored so you can watch them back, and only you can see them. Deleting an interview deletes its recordings from disk at the same time.

Why did it score my confident answer badly?

Because confidence is not credibility. A fluent answer with nothing checkable in it is exactly what a caseworker distrusts. Specificity and consistency outrank polish here, deliberately.

Practise before it counts

You get one real interview. This one you can take as many times as you like.
